Thanks so much, any advice on how to proceed is welcome.For gaming, I dual-boot between an 32-bit XP and 64-bit Windows 7 to sometimes compare performance, capabilities and compatibility. That way you get the best of both the old and new worlds. I've experieced some various problems with certain older (year or so) games on both Vista and 7 so I still use my XP environment for those games.If you choose to do that, remember to partition your single drive accordingly or, better yet, use two physical drives. Install XP in the first partition or drive, then Windows 7 64-bit in the second so it updates the boot manager correctly. Or, better yet, hide (disconnect cables) the first XP drive when installing Windows 7 and use the F12 key to boot.Any motherboard drivers only, I use Dell.
All NVIDIA and other 3rd party drivers, I always download from their site.

I did find someone else who has successfully installed Windows 7 on a XPS Gen 5 even though Dell doesn't recommend doing this. His problem was the installation DVD was bad, once he got that fixed, it worked fine he said with Windows managing the drivers. If I can find that post again, I'll post a link to it.
