We had this problem with Windows 10 also. We found that if you have the computer completely plugged into the VHS player RCA connectors to USB 2.0 before you open the Roxio program it reads the incoming signal fine. If you open the program then connect the cables or use a slower/older USB port it won't recognize the incoming signal.

We took our TV out of the connection chain entirely to simplify things since the picture (and VCR commands like play, fast forward, etc) appears on the computer through Roxio.
