I have just bought the Uniden UBC125XLT to replace a GRE PSR 282. The scanner seems nice, but I have to say that I am a bit put out at having paid for a product, I am directed in the instructions to download paid software to go with it.

I would have expected at least light version of some software that I could use to programme the scanner.I am therefore searching for any free alterantives that I could use to the ARC125 software. So far, I have seen that FreeSCAN and bcTool are not compatible with this scanner. I have seen that Uniden provide software for the US version, the bc125AT, but I read that this was not compatible with the European version of the scanner. Is anyone aware of any free software I could use to programme the scanner?

First download and install the ARC125 software.Reboot the PC.Plug the USB cable in the scanner and a free USB port.Do not select the option to automatically install the driver.Select the option to manually install the driver. Windows will ask for the driver location.Point Windows to the following location: c:program filesbutelarc125driver and either the BC125 or UBC125 driver folder depending on the scanner model.Windows should now install the drivers.After installing the driver the scanner should be listed as either a BC125 or UBC125 in the Windows device manager. You can download the driver for free from butel.nl but the only software available at present is the ARC125 which will cost you money. ARC125 only supports the loading and saving of data. My program will do this and allow full control of the scanner as well. Starting and stopping of scans, holding, step up, step down etc. Etc.I also support the import/export of Butel ARC125 format files so whatever you have already programmed can be easily imported.For other reading this thread listners132 COM port could have simply been that my program requires you to select the 'correct' com port AND have already installed the drivers. Running the program without having installed the drivers will be an issue.Nick. Windows enumerates such devices on the USB bus as COMn.Of course if you only have an old Serial port then you will need a serial to USB converter which will still enumerate as a COMn port and my program will happily work in this scenario.Nick - Scan125 author.
